Buzz low cost airlines
All over the Internet and TV you've seen commercials for cheap or reasonable airfares. Viewers are attacked by ads in an all out competition to get them to fly with them. If you haven't seen these commercials, then you haven't been watching TV much or logged on to the Internet much. All I can say is turn on your set and stay tuned and one of these ads will pop up before you know it. But of all the ads you will see there, there is one company whose ad you will NOT see there. That company is buzz airline. Buzz was an airline that was based at London Stansted Airport and offered flights on routes around Europe. It was formed by KLM/UK but later became known as KLM Cityhopper. Buzz was a small airline that had a very short run in the business world. This little company began in 1999 as a contender offering high quality service at penny-pincher prices. Buzz was designed to compete with other airlines at the time offering the same services. They kept prices low by using refurbished aircraft as well as aircraft loaned or leased to them from other airline companies. Their fleet had fine jets in it ranging from the BAe 146-300's to Boeing 737-300's. For about forty percent of its brief time, RyanAir ran buzz. In 2002 RyanAir began the process of acquiring buzz airline. In 2003 RyanAir went ahead with purchasing buzz to expand their company, but instead let it operate independently. RyanAir included it as one of its subsidiaries and put a lot of its own funding into the company in efforts to keep it going. During its time with RyanAir they changed the name of it to buzz Stansted airline. This however, wasn't working out for RyanAir. Therefore RyanAir made a very tough decision for not only the employees of buzz airline, but for the passengers as well. In 2004 buzz airline closed its doors and ceased operations forever. All borrowed and leased planes were returned to their original owners. Passengers we re-routed through other terminals to reach their destinations. RyanAir covered these changes and serviced the passengers, but it was an inconvenience to them. The terminals were out of the way of their original flight plans and often times they'd have to change their itineraries as well to accommodate this change. When buzz closed up shop, it had far reaching repercussions for all involved. Not only did many employees lose jobs, but also many travelers lost a great company to fly with.
